Early November sees the launch of the new Berghaus X Griffin collaboration a collection that sees the successful clash of two design powerhouses. With Griffin's resistance to conformity and indulgance of individualism and expression, each garment unfolds its own story of detail, shape and fabrication, hand worked and re-invented.
Where Griffin leads the way in fashion likewise Berghaus had led the way in designing and developing adventurous outdoor gear for the world’s toughest climates and pursuits for over 40 years. Working with athletes that push themselves to the limits and challenge the clothes they're wearing as much as their own body's and mind's. Credibility and performance are everything and are weaved into the fabric of every garment.
For this Autumn Winter 2008 Griffin wanted to create the opposite to the mass Global image of sportswear and create something which is really exclusive. With this in mind we discovered Berghaus is the largest customer of Gore-Tex® in Europe and had a fantastic archive of expensive unused Gore-Tex® to experiment with. Rummaging through the extensive archive of Gore-Tex® material we returned to the Griffin studio an began pinning, stitching and taping together the unusued material. A mocked up sample was then sent to the Berghaus lab in Sunderland. Below is the end result in two colour ways, Electric Mix and Grey. These jackets are a great mix of hand made, high technology and design including the use of recycled materials, which makes sense, as both Griffin and Berghaus share a strong point of view on the environmental issues that surround both the fashion industry and society at present.
